Confederation’s Key Demands
The Confederation of Central Government Employees & Workers has decided to stage a lunch hour demonstration on 19. 07. 2024 in the working places. This is following their presenting of seven points charter of demands to the Cabinet Secretary. The demands include:
1. Formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission: Optimization to correspond to the executive level, and perform adjustments to salary revisions as soon as possible.
2. Scrapping of NPS: Abolition of NSS and Its replacement with the Old Pension Scheme in cases of all the employees.
3. Release of DA Arrears: Allowance of eighteen months’ Dearness Allowance (DA) which got capped during the coronavirus outbreak and modification of restoration factor for commuted pension to twelve years from fifteen years.
4. Compassionate Appointments: Scrap the 5% limit and give grants to all dependents regardless of the death of an employee.
5. Filling Vacancies: Recruit and fill all the vacant positions in goverment departments and stop outsourcing.
6. Democratic Functioning: The promulgation of the fair working of associations and federations as enshrined in the Joint Consultative Machinery (JCM).
7. Regularization of Workers: Employees without permanent appointment: Formalize casual employees, contract employees, and Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) and provide equality to employees in autonomous organizations.

Reading through Confederation’s demands a number of critical questions that touch on central government employees’ welfare emerge including pension, salaries, and security of tenure.
